Young adult student interns come to volunteer with us — hungry to learn about the hidden art, dreams, poems, music and film of their own, and other, cultures. They’re idealistic, enthusiastic about our mission, and eager and grateful to learn. They devotedly work hard in spite of school and other obligations — receiving hands-on experience in: (a) Collections (researching art and artists and assisting in cataloging our holdings; (b) Press Relations (interacting with the news media and assisting with writing text and taking photographs for invitations, posters and press releases about art exhibits and events); (c) Education (doing outreach and assisting in developing and conducting programs for children, youth and adults, providing museum tours and assisting with concerts and festivals); (d) Exhibitions (helping to plan and install exhibits, assisting with art events and preparing art catalogues); and (e) art conservation. In the future, they will also learn about touring art exhibitions.
Interns grow in countless ways while participating in MOCHA’s bilingual Internship Program. They are also a great help to us. We recognize their contributions at awards dinners attended by artists, members and distinguished guests.
It is our hope that some of our interns will be a first generation to enter the museum field as a career, with a graduate degree in our common heritage, which can enrich us all, and that they will help to introduce more culturally diverse artists into the permanent collections of major museums.
